All Souls Day Opioid Crisis
All Souls Day Opioid Crisis
CEO Julian Daly discusses the opioid crisis and the souls lost to drug addiction in our province: Over 1,200 people in our province have died from overdoses since 2020 began. That is 4 deaths every single day. Many, many more than the number who have died from Covid-19. The poisoning of the illicit drug stream, and its deadly effects, is a nation-wide pandemic that has been erased from public consciousness. These deaths are usually lonely, bleak and stigmatised. It breaks my heart every day when I read or hear of yet another needless death. All I can hope is that these souls now rest in peace – a peace, perhaps, they couldn’t find in life. Let us honour those souls by remembering the human face behind the statistic.
